MEXICO
Loreto- Baja California, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico City
We were advised the entry point of Loreto is an easy and smooth customs and immigration clearance. Good past experience from other Cirrus Life friends proved to be, as usual, the best tips and the advice didn’t disappoint. We were met at the aircraft by CBP, asked to remove all the contents of the plane- for us that is A LOT!, passports and a quick look inside a few bags then we were good to go- 15 mins tops. The FBO is Loreto aviation services who are performing services just like the USA with full assistance, completing the general declaration and providing good rates on hotel accommodations and transportation. We stayed at the ( La Mision Hotel which was well situated to the small quaint town and opposite the Gulf of California. Continue reading the story.....
Caribbean
Turks Caicos, St Maarten, St Lucia, Barbados, Dominican Republic.
The Caribbean is officially a region of the Americas that consists of the Caribbean Sea, its islands and the surrounding coasts. The region covers an area of 1.6 million square miles and has 13 official sovereign states of international countries and 15 dependencies that were developed in the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, by the colonialism of the British, Spanish, French and the Dutch, creating an incredible mix of diversity in each island.
A melting pot of different cultures mixing together and fighting for survival, with a population of over 40 million.
We found in Barbados the story of the Pirates of the Caribbean!
We chose just a few Islands to visit:
We keep getting leered back to the Caribbean and we know why, it is like a treasure hunt! Some islands are a complete surprise and some we know we won’t do that again. For an adventurous pilot it is a bonus to be able to fly to different Countries and Territories all in the range of an SR22 or Vision Jet.
After 10 years of flying overseas in both the SR22 and the SF50 our life-raft needed a repack and recertification service. We chose Winslow to complete this as their service, price and short turnaround time frame ticked all the boxes. So with life raft and vests on board and ready we take off from Vero Beach Florida KVRB to Puerto Rico TJBQ, we are vectored directly over the beach to our destination flightpath. Climbing slowly for the 916NM flight, we are soon overhead the azure blue waters of the Great Bahamas and continue with Cuba and Haiti on our right.
Leaving directly from Panama City KECP to Kingston, Jamaica MKJP in one flight took a little more preparation than usual as we needed a permit to over fly Cuba. That was pretty straight forward with an email to Coban AEROCIVIL, the Cuban government department that issues the permits, we were pleasantly surprised with an immediate response and clear instruction of how to obtain the permit. Payment is done through Mexican agents of AEROCIVIL and only after the flight is completed, the charges are based on actual miles you fly within the Cuban airspace.
